Daraja returns!

August 29th, 2008 by mickey

Jambo! We are so excited that Daraja African Children’s Choir is coming back to Mt. Bethel! If you heard them perform last year, and listened to some of their testimonies, you will be excited also! Many of our mission team members met a lot of these children in Kenya. They have none of the material things that our children and grandchildren have and yet they are among the most joyful kids you will ever meet. When they sing about their Faith, they really mean it! When they dance, it is truly worship!

They will be in concert at 6:30 on Sunday, October 5, in the sanctuary. They are also making a visit to Live It Live that day. We only need two more host families for October 4 and 5 so contact the mission office if interested.

Can “Financial Peace University” change your life?

August 27th, 2008 by mickey

I must confess that I began this journey as the reluctant spouse. My husband asked me to give this Dave Ramsey guy a chance at helping us figure out our finances. Now, I am eternally grateful that my stubbornness didn’t get in the way. What I learned through Financial Peace University ultimately helped not only our finances, it strengthened our marriage, increased our communication and improved my relationship with God. The concepts we learned are pretty straight forward, but I found that it was in the small group discussions that helped keep us accountable along this path. Through this process, we managed to pay all debts (except the house), begin our retirement accounts, establish college funds for our children and establish a six month emergency fund. During this time we even dealt with a company lay-off and moved our family without diving back into our old spending habits! Three years ago, this would definitely not have been possible! I am so thankful for what we have learned and am passionate about changing our family tree and never allowing debt to be an issue in our situation. Sure, we are weird… but Normal is BROKE!

There is definitely some discipline required to follow through with the program, but having been there already… it is so worth it! This program has truly blessed this family and I am forever grateful for this knowledge.

Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible

August 26th, 2008 by sherri

Sunday morning was an exciting day in the life of our 3rd grade students, it was a milestone on their spiritual walk…they received their 3rd grade Bible.  I don’t know who was more excited; the children, the parents, or the adults that have shared in teaching them on Sunday mornings.  I was touched personally as I watched dozens of children that had been in my 3 year old  Sunday School class have their name placed in their new Bible.  The smiles were overwhelming, for in their hands they held a true treasure…the word of God right there in one hand and a cookie in the other.  God is good!

Now what?  The journey begins, the book is their own, what will they do with it?

I remember my very first Bible…it was white with a gold lamb embossed on it and gold lined pages.  I was told it was a very special book and I was to take very special care of it.  Okay, I followed the rules! I did just that, I took very good care of it.  I was afraid to open the cover, it might bend the binding.  I was afraid to touch the delicate pages, it might tear them.  I was afraid to peal the pages apart from each other for it might ruin my new Bible, my gift.  It wasn’t until years later, as an adult, that same Bible laid on a bookcase in my home and a friend said…”what a beautiful Bible, too bad it has never been opened”.  Well, that comment really stuck with me and I realized my Bible is a treasure and I didn’t know what the gift was until I bent back the cover, touched each page, and pealed back the gift of God’s mighty word.

Years later I understand the treasure and long to leave a legacy for my children of a Bible filled with prayer, notes, and a life lived as a follower of Jesus Christ.  We can’t possibly teach your child about the Bible in 4 hours, but we can get them started on the adventure of a lifetime as they “Unlock the Mystery of the Bible” from 6:00-10:00pm on Friday September 5th.  Children will visit four different libraries-God’s Mighty Acts, Judges and Kings, Prophets and Gospel Writers, and Acts and Letters as they explore the treasure of God’s word and learn to decode scripture by book, chapter, and verse.  The evening will be complete with food, fun, fellowship and an adventure to grow on!  See you there!

Tuesday Morning Breakfast with a tornado warning thrown in

August 26th, 2008 by justin

Tuesday morning breakfast went great this morning, with the added excitement of a tornado warning.  As soon as we heard of the warning, we sent all of the students to the nursery area in the church basement to keep them safe, and we contacted all of the schools to make sure they would receive an excused tardy.

All students are now safely at school.  If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me at (678) 569-7878.

Thanks!

Justin
