Veterans Ministry: Monthly USO Assignment
Posted: December 14, 2009
The Mt. Bethel Veterans Ministry assumed its normal duty station at the USO-Atl Airport on Thursday Dec. 10. For the past approximately 3 years the members of the Veterans Ministry have served the departing and returning sevice men and women at the U.S.O. This Thursday was no exception with a large number of service men and women departing for the battle field in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as those returning from the battlefield for a brief visit with their families before returning to duty.
Members of the Veterans Ministry serve by preparing hot sandwiches and snacks in the USO Kitchen as well as meeting all of the service men and women at the escalator to give them proper directions and other help in getting to the correct place at the correct time.
Some families wait at the same location to meet their incoming service people, and the Vets Ministry assists them as may be needed.
Yesterdays assignment had additional Auxillary volunteers-Karen Knobbe and Lisa Coleman of Alpharetta who joined the veterans group, and indicated their joy in being able to serve the young men and women who defend our country.
The Mt. Bethel Veterans Ministry meets at Tiajuana Joe’s restaurant on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm for fellowship and unedited war stories.
For more information on the group contact Bob Babcock at Babcock224@aol.com.

About Project 82:
“Psalm 82 calls for us to “Defend the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed; rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked”.
There is a story that needs to be told. It’s a story about 143 million orphans in the world… about suffering and hope, oppression and justice, and a future. Its about an awakening to the TRUTH in our world today and asking ourselves a question…what are we going to do about it?
The statistics surrounding the rising orphan population and the immense suffering of these children who are left behind can be overwhelming. Project 82 realizes that we can’t rescue all of the orphans but we CAN rescue some of them. And together we can begin to bring hope and a future to one child at a time.
Project 82 will raise awareness of the enormous needs of so many children and how little it takes to actually bring hope. We invite you to be a part of a movement that says…the time is NOW. We will be the generation that stands up and says their suffering must end. We recognize that God has blessed us abundantly with the power and the resources to end it and in doing so, we will make manifest His glory to the rest of the world.”
