Veterans Trip to Fort McPherson
Posted: July 6, 2009
In a trip on June 16th to Fort McPherson (which permanently closes in 2011), some of the Mt Bethel veterans and their wives were hosted for a ceremony honoring the 234th birthday of the US Army as well as a lunch and tour of the base by the garrison commander. The base which was built in 1869 is the home to Patton’s 3d Army, Forces Command (which was formerly commanded by General Colin Powell), and the US Army Reserve Command. The trip was a day of speeches, demonstrations and displays of US Army capabilities and equipment, and interactive event stations. After lunch, the veterans toured the base and saw many of the buildings which are preserved and protected by federal law. The tour was organized by Henry Bohn and is one of a continuing series of events sponsored by the Mt Bethel Veterans Ministry that highlights local sites of military interest.
