The details of educating each child are important. In fact, I believe that it is the details that separate a great school from an excellent one. Right now, our public schools are digging deeper into the details of what makes up their total educational costs in order to figure out which ones to cut. Taxpayers are expressing frustration and disappointment that some programs such as the arts and music will be cut to bare bones or even removed from Lower and Middle Schools. Interestingly, we believe that these very ―details‖ are the ones that enable many children to reach their full potential in core subjects such as math and science. Other details separating our school from other alternative choices include a defined starting time for all students, appropriate lunch times, and dress codes that empower our students to focus on academic success. We further implement safety systems whereby students are re-leased to parents and guardians, keeping them from wandering up and down busy streets and into area restaurants. Most importantly, the detail that separates our school is having Christ at the helm of all our academics, cocurriculars, and faculty-student relationships.

Bethel to join the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy families at the Fabulous Fox for a “Roaring Twenties” themed Gala. Come dressed in theme attire or dressed for a wonderful evening out on the town for dancing!

Come have fun dancing the night away underneath the beautiful stain glass of the Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta. Dance to the sounds of a DJ and have buffet style Hors Devours (enough to call dinner)! The cost is $75.00 per person to get your name on the check in list.

We will also have some wonderful opportunities for you to take advantage of too. We will have surprise boxes available that night for $20.00, along with an opportunity to make a donation for the chance to own a scooter from the Urban Scooter Company or a donation for a chance to receive free tuition for 2009-2010 year at the Academy. You do not have to be present to have these opportunities. Proceeds from the donations for the Scooter and the Tuition will benefit the scholarship fund at the Academy.

For further information or for purchase of tickets please contact Bobby Trevathan at bobby_trevathan@yahoo.com.

On November 11th, members of the Mt Bethel UMC Veteran’s Ministry visited schools and civic groups and private organizations to talk about their time in the military and what it meant to their lives. Eddie Gustafson visited Mrs. Wilczynski’s 3rd grade class at the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. He discussed his duties and experiences in the Philippines during and after World War II.

Although his time was limited, his presentation and display of his steel helmet brought many questions. Furthermore, the class showed their appreciation by afterwards writing illustrated thank you letters to Eddie for his talk and being a part of “The Greatest Generation.”

As you may have seen this past Sunday, the church had some ancient books available for viewing this weekend. Some of the Academy classes got a chance to see them, and here are their thoughts:

Robin Chiang – 5th grade

My class visited the ancient books display yesterday and found it very interesting. The gentleman in charge gave the students a brief explanation of the history behind the exhibit. The students were amazed by the sheep skin scroll and the precision that the writers used to print the Word in square blocks. It was a once in a life time opportunity for our students to be so up close to museum quality writings of the scripture. Thank you to Mt. Bethel UMC for hosting such a historically relevant exhibit.

Linda Thomason – 5th grade

My fifth grade class viewed the ancient texts yesterday. I only wish that we had had more time with the man showing the rare collection as he was a wealth of information and history! It was a priceless and unexpected gift for the kids, and us, to see the bibles and Christian Books. The Hebrew Scroll was wonderful! We all loved it and learned a LOT from the experience. Thank You so much for including us.
