Thursday’s Mt. Bethel Veterans Group

August 20th, 2008 by mickey

On the second Thursday of each month the Mt. Bethel Veterans Ministry takes up volunteer duty at the Atlanta Airport USO. The assignment begins at 7:00 AM and usually ends at 2:30 PM.

The Veterans man the USO booth at the top of the esculator where they give greet the troops as they return from R&R leave with their families. They give directions and assistance as may be needed.

In the USO, upstairs, they furnish a baggage safe area as well as man the refreshment kitchen in the USO.

At the appointed time they assist with the debarkation process by escorting the young men and women to their point of receiving their boarding passes. At this time they accompany the troops through the Atrium area, allowing the public to cheer the Soldiers, Marines and Navy personnel on their return to Iraq and Afghanistan. A very rewarding part of the assignment.

Recently the Veterans Group has been joined by some of the wives, who believe in the undertaking.

The Mt. Bethel Veterans Ministry welcomes all veterans of any of the branches of service to their regular, non-formal, meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at Tijuana Joe’s on the corner of Lower Roswell and Johnson Ferry Road. War stories are allowed and not checked.

Here are a few photos from our most recent visit.

An Enchanted Evening

June 23rd, 2008 by mickey

Nearly 100 fathers and their princesses started their Father’s Day weekend with a bang at Mt. Bethel’s first-ever Father/Daughter Dance on June 14.

Couples decked out in royal attire were greeted by a beautiful Princess handing out candy rings and necklaces.  Appetites were filled with pink and purple chocolate fountains and too many other sweets to list!  To burn off the sugar, the wonderful disc jockey funneled the energy into two hours of activities and music that kept the dance floor hopping all night!

The sell-out dance sponsored by Men’s Ministry promises to become an annual event.  Mark your calendars for next June!

A huge thank you to the Kitchen Staff, Facilities, and the many volunteers who made this evening truly “Enchanted” for everyone.  Be sure to check out the formal pictures that were taken, along with over 200 candid pictures from the evening.

Father/Child Campout

June 2nd, 2008 by mickey

We have a great night for the campout!  Over 170 campers enjoyed fishing, eating at the cookout, cooking S’mores over the campfire, and playing on the Field of Dreams.  The kids had a blast playing with each other and their dads / grand fathers.  I heard from several fathers who stated that their child had been asking about the next campout already.  After lights out, the dads got to enjoy a relaxing time sitting around and swatting mosquitoes.  Look for the next campout this fall.
