Get Involved in Special Olympics

Posted: December 2, 2009

My involvement in Special Olympics began over 13 years ago when I served as an escort to a dear friend’s daughter, as she participated at the county level. I have been a “fan in the stands” volunteer as well, cheering on the athletes as they bring their “A” game to each event. The Georgia Special Olympics Winter games are at the Cobb Civic Center January 15, 16, 17 2010. Come be apart of this fun and fulfilling opportunity cheering on these Special Athletes as they strive to give their best. Join me for a volunteer information meeting this Wednesday, December 2 @ 6:30pm in F001.

Thanks,
Kim McGarr

Special Needs Ministry Volunteer Opportunities

Posted: April 20, 2009

The Special Needs Ministry needs you!  Would you be willing to spend some time with a child or young adult?  What they desire most is your time and friendship!  You can serve by sharing Christ love and Christian fellowship, no special skills are required, just the desire to share of yourself with some very special people.

Every Sunday, volunteers are  needed in F002 at 9:30 & 11am. Our program and outreach is growing and the Ministry could use your support.  Please consider volunteering for 1 hour on Sunday mornings this summer – Adults and teens are both needed!  Volunteers needed now for April 26th and May 3rd!

Georgia Summer Special Olympics volunteer registration – April 26th – We’ll have a table near the welcome desk to sign up volunteers for The Georgia Summer Special Olympics to be held May 29-31 at Emory.  You could be an assistant to one of the athletes, or a Fan in the Stands – Information & applications will be available.

Mt Bethel has so many ways to get connected and serve! Come join the Special Needs Ministry and together will will share Christ love and Christian fellowship with some very special families!

For more information, please contact Rev. Kim McGarr.

Special Needs Ministry Volunteers

The Sunday morning Special Needs Ministry needs you! We need adults and teens to staff the Special Needs Class (F002) on Sunday mornings. We provide respite care on Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 12:00 so families with children who have special needs can come be a part of our church family and worship together.

Do you have an hour you could share? If so, please contact Kim McGarr at kim.mcgarr@mtbethel.org or at 770-971-8938.

Parent’s Night Out

Posted: May 27, 2008

Who knew paper airplanes and bubbles could be so much fun!  The eight children who had a blast at our last Parent’s Night Out before the summer.  It was a great mix of children.  Four girls and four boys came to play with our volunteers, while mom and dad enjoyed a much needed break.  Besides making and flying our paper airplanes, and dancing in the bubbles from the best bubble machine ever, we made heart pictures frames, played Hullabloo, and even enjoyed the boys Olympic style leaps onto the crash cushions.  It was a great evening made possible by our awesome volunteers!  Special thanks go to the Christian Navigators, and the Couples in Christ class who support out Parent’s Night Out Events.

Our next Parent’s Night Out is in September.  So enjoy your Summer, and we’ll see you again in the Fall!

Blessings,
Kim

Art show at Mt. Bethel raises $1200 for Porter Academy

Posted: May 7, 2008

What an amazing night!  The Porter Academy Art show and sale opened with a flurry of excitement over the young student’s art pieces.  Parents, grandparents, Porter Academy Staff and Mt Bethel members enjoyed refreshments as they viewed the gallery in the B hall.

Barbara Ramer, principal of Porter Academy, was very grateful to Mt Bethel for hosting their first art show and sale that benefited the Matthew C. Roberts scholarship fund.  “The art looks great, and the children are so proud to see their pieces displayed,” stated Ramer.  To date, the art show has raised $1200 dollars for the scholarship fund.

The show generated a lot of excitement and a greater awareness of Mt Bethel’s Special Needs Ministry, while spotlighting a great school that provides a wonderfully supportive learning environment, Porter Academy.  What a blessing to work with the staff at Porter, and to have the opportunity to meet some of the artists and their families at the gallery opening.  I am grateful that God got us altogether for this wonderful event.

Note cards of the children prints will be available in the bookstore until the end of May.   You may special order prints of the children’s art until the end of May by contacting me.

Thanks to everyone who made this show and sale possible!
