June 4th, 2008 by mickey

Last year Camp Lee was the highlight of my summer.  Now called Infusion, I’m anticipating it to be better than ever.  The staff is working hard on all the fun activities as well as spiritual ones that will be going on and we are making sure that if you’re coming that this trip will be the best trip you’ve ever been on.  Anyways, I look forward to seeing all of you up at Camp Winfield come Sunday, June 15th.  Be ready to be in awe of how big our God truly is.

Live updates from Choir Tour!

May 30th, 2008 by mickey

Our High School choir is on their way to Chicago for their annual tour.  They’ll be stopping in various places in Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois on their way.  We’ve built a few tools to help highlight their trip and give you frequent status updates.

The first is our Google Earth KML of their trip plan.  If you have Google Earth installed, simply load this file and it will highlight all of their stops along the way.  If you don’t yet have Google Earth installed, you can download it (for free!) from this site.  If you have any problems with it, please post your question in our Technical Help forum and we’ll do our best to help you out.

The next is our Twitter update page for the event. The group will be sending frequent status updates from the road, all of which are immediately posted to their page.  We used Twitter for our recent CHARGE retreat with great success and decided to use it again.  You can either view the Twitter page for the latest update, or you can have their updates sent directly to your cell phone — very useful for concerned parents.

If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to leave a message in our Technical Help forum, or simply leave a comment on this blog entry.

Thanks!

College Intern Retreat

May 20th, 2008 by mickey

Great Success!!! The summer interns of 2008 arrived Friday the 15th armed with bibles and sleeping bags, unaware of the location for their retreat! As weather worsened, our plans for camping quickly changed to shacking at Gaylyn’s lake house.

Along with paperwork and logistics, the team quickly set off on a mission to bond. Relations grew speedily when we were asked to draw a picture of a life-changing moment in our lives. As we shared, it was requested by the interns that we pray for one another. As we asked the Lord for words of encouragement, He graciously grew our love for people we had only met hours before. Prayer and worship broke out as God led us into His presence, and with the wee hours of the morning approaching, the night was finished.

When we weren’t asking the Lord for MORE!, a continuation of things He has already begun in each of us and in the ministry here at Mt. Bethel, our minds and competitive spirits were sparked with mind riddles and Catch Phrase Tournaments (which I am proud to say, Team Drew/Elise/Katie/Kelli dominated)! Gaylyn and team demand rematches to occur throughout the summer. Saturday continued our fellowship as we huffed and puffed our way up a section of the Appalachian Trail.

Finally, the retreat was concluded with a humbling trip with the Seven Bridges ministry, providing lunch for the homeless and having the honor of praying over and for them. A bonus to the trip included a number of high school and college students here at Mt. Bethel attending, giving us the chance to meet and get to know some of the amazing students we will be graced with this summer!

Glory be to God!

Senior Night

May 20th, 2008 by mickey

A few thoughts about “Senior Night” this past Sunday…

Chris Davis:

This year Student Ministries decided to take our students to Spiced Right BBQ in Roswell. It was one of the funnest times I have ever had with our students the environment was fantastic. There was a blues band there playing whatever we requested and also allowed a couple of our talented students to sing along on stage, as well as play their drums. Lastly we finished the night with congratulations to the students and musical chairs with the band. It was a great time.

Chris Morris:

Following our wonderful baccalaureate celebration here at Mt Bethel Student Ministries took the seniors to a night out on the town. We went to Spiced Right Rib Shack where we were fed excellent food and listened to an absolutely phenomenal blues cover band. The night included excellent fellowship, great food, and some awesome dancing. It will be an event that I consider to be one of the most fun events that Student Ministries had held or participated in.

Volunteers needed for Camp Infusion

May 19th, 2008 by mickey

Infusion Camp for rising 5th through 8th graders

We need adult men over 25, preferably married with children who can be a chaperone in a cabin with 10 boys ( rising 5th - 8th ) grade for the week.

There will be 2 chaperones, one adult and one teen or college male.  The chaperones are responsible for knowing where the boys are at all times, leading a small group and general helping out with camp activities.

Cost is $350 to cover the cost of room and board.  It will be a wonderful time for spiritual growth for all involved as well as making new friends in Christ.  Please contact Dianne Hylton if you are available to help.

Student mission trips to Ecuador

April 18th, 2008 by mickey

Hola!

Mt Bethel’s Student Ministries has had the fortunate opportunity and privilege to take 2 teams of students to Ecuador between March and April.  Our mission was to share the love of Jesus Christ while helping to serve the people of Quito, Ecuador.  Our service included a week of VBS classes for over 200 students and fulfilling some major construction needs of their Church they were in the midst’s of building.

It is with much joy that I have the privilege of trying to convey the experience that I was afforded to witness on my trip to Ecuador with 25 of our youth.  As 34 of us stepped onto a plane on Saturday, April 5th, I do  not think any of us had the expectations in mind quite the magnitude of what God had planned for us.  What a beautiful gift, to be able to watch a group high school students fall down to their knees in the dirt, to scoop up a handful of children who have swarmed around them.

I have never witnessed such a pure joy and love, as what our students displayed, not only to the children of Ecuador, but also to each other.  The unity of our team grew daily as each person allowed God to push them and use them as His servant.

Although we were the team that was Ecuador doing the actual “work”, we knew we had a whole team here in the U.S. praying for us as well.   Thank you to everyone who listened and responded to God’s call for them to serve, in whatever capacity, for this trip!  Through your faithfulness, God has forever changed many lives.

Your Student Ministries Team.

DNOW: Respond

March 5th, 2008 by gaylyn

DNOW: RespondWhat is going on when in less than 3 hours 3,290 PB&J sandwiches are made for the hungry and homeless of Atlanta; 500 Easter Eggs are filled for St Philip UMC to host a community Egg Hunt; one playground and fence are cleared so St Philip can have fields to use for recreation as a community outreach ministry; 500 salvation bracelets are created; over 41 blankets are made to give to poverty stricken children in Ecuador and over 250 letters are written to soldiers who are currently serving our country overseas?

DNOW ’08 that’s what!! DNOW was a weekend to RESPOND!!!!!!

Travis CrimWe were given a chance to RESPOND to the love of Jesus through our worship experience lead by Kristian Stanfill and challenged by messages delivered by Travis Crim. We unpacked our theme scripture, Matthew 25:40. Our awareness about the needs of others was raised by information we listened to concerning Camp HOPE, 7 bridges ministry of Atlanta, DRY Tears in Africa, Any Soldier Ministry and the Mt. Bethel Student Ministries “325 Day Challenge.” We all had the opportunity to learn about the needs of others and were able to RESPOND with the love of Christ.

Seventy one college leaders, from 18 different universities, dedicated themselves to guide students through the weekend. Sixty four Mt. Bethel members opened their homes and hosted family groups and provided meals and transportation. A team of volunteers assisted in preparing and executing the Disciple Now go smoothly that included praying, pitching in with necessary office tasks, organizing materials, transporting, shopping, supervising mission projects, donating snacks, and helping transform the CAC – All this and then joining the 800-person packed DNOW celebration service on Sunday morning!

DNOW: RespondGod blew us all away with HIS undeniable presence all weekend long. We thank God for everyone who was a part of the glorious weekend. The only way we want to RESPOND is by giving Him all the glory.

Here is more good news, our opportunity to RESPOND to the love of Christ continues. Disciple NOW was just the beginning. Every Sunday students study God’s word at 9:30 a.m., and on Sunday evenings we host day/one for students 6th through 12th grade. Please join us and RESPOND to the longing in your heart that only a relationship with Christ can fill.
