Update from our Bolivia mission team

September 12th, 2008 by mickey

The following e-mail was sent to us last night from Rev. Carey Akin, who is currently in Bolivia with our mission team:

Dear Family and Friends of the Bolivia Mission Team,

The mission trip has been a great success. We all can´t wait to get back and tell you all the wonderful things that have happened. Unfortunately due to very recent political issues the US Ambassador has been asked to leave the country. As a standard precaution, American Airlines has suspended all incoming and outgoing Bolivian flights. The unrest is currently isolated in a distant part of the country, and both the mission team and SIFAT feel that we are safe with no need for worry; however, this has caused us to make alternate arrangements to return home. Together with SIFAT, the following itinerary has been scheduled:

  • Depart La Paz via Lan Chile Flight 965 to Santiago on 9/14/09
  • Depart Santiago for Miami on American Airlines Flt 912 on 9/14/08
  • Arrive Miami at 5:10am on 9/15/08
  • Depart Miami Flight 1664 at 8:15am  arrive Atlanta 10:20am on 9/15/08

We are all looking forward to coming home and seeing our loved ones. Right now we are headed out the door to go eat lama kabobs!

In Christ´s Love,
Carey Akin

From the Kenya Mission Team

Thanks for your prayers while the Kenya Mission Team was away.  The trip could not have gone any better and the people of Kwambekenya send their prayers to you. The  building foundation of the medical center is well under way and we were able to also spend a good deal of time at the school with the children and in homes in the community.  What a blessing!  Thanks again so much for your prayers and support.

For His Glory,
Carey

Student mission trips to Ecuador

April 18th, 2008 by mickey

Hola!

Mt Bethel’s Student Ministries has had the fortunate opportunity and privilege to take 2 teams of students to Ecuador between March and April.  Our mission was to share the love of Jesus Christ while helping to serve the people of Quito, Ecuador.  Our service included a week of VBS classes for over 200 students and fulfilling some major construction needs of their Church they were in the midst’s of building.

It is with much joy that I have the privilege of trying to convey the experience that I was afforded to witness on my trip to Ecuador with 25 of our youth.  As 34 of us stepped onto a plane on Saturday, April 5th, I do  not think any of us had the expectations in mind quite the magnitude of what God had planned for us.  What a beautiful gift, to be able to watch a group high school students fall down to their knees in the dirt, to scoop up a handful of children who have swarmed around them.

I have never witnessed such a pure joy and love, as what our students displayed, not only to the children of Ecuador, but also to each other.  The unity of our team grew daily as each person allowed God to push them and use them as His servant.

Although we were the team that was Ecuador doing the actual “work”, we knew we had a whole team here in the U.S. praying for us as well.   Thank you to everyone who listened and responded to God’s call for them to serve, in whatever capacity, for this trip!  Through your faithfulness, God has forever changed many lives.

Your Student Ministries Team.
