On June 16th, over 40 women and children from the Abundant Life Circle, the Wings Circle, and other church and community volunteers met for 2-1/2 hours to produce 1200 sandwiches and lunch bags for the MUST Summer Lunch Program – what a great operation! That’s A LOT of lunches, folks! We pre-packed 1200 lunch bags (many were decorated) with a juice box, banana and pretzels. And we made 1200 ham and cheese sandwiches! All of these were delivered to a MUST staging center for disbursement. These lunches are then distributed to children who usually participate in the lunch program at their school during the school year.
Thank you to each of the women who took time out of their schedules to participate in this mission project!
Mary Allphin, thank you so much for keeping the ball rolling to the right people and for passing along this wonderful mission opportunity!
Cathy Fletcher, thank you for organizing this event on behalf of the Abundant Life Circle. It was such a great opportunity to work beside women in the Wings Circle and others that just wanted to help. We had at least 3 “neighbors” of church members who wanted to come help and also brought their children!
The Children were an amazing help and scurried around the entire time loading the lunch bags, decorating bags, or making sandwiches! Thanks to the Moms who provided this opportunity for their children!
Finally, thank you to Jan Miller and the kitchen staff for getting us perfectly stocked for this event!
There likely are other roles and people involved that we have failed to thank. Please pass along our gratitude to them! How touching and inspiring to experience the outpouring of our church community and beyond, and to be a part of the nourishment we have been able to provide to so many children!

Take a tour of God’s Zoo from the privacy of your own home! MBUMC’S nursery, God’s Zoo, is finally in the 21st century. Watch the video below, which highlights all the amenities our nursery offers your precious little ones.
It may not be as exotic a mission field as Kenya, but the campus of St. Philip UMC in West Cobb has become both a challenging and a rewarding opportunity to witness the Lord at work. One example of this is the 54-foot mural that’s being painted in the children’s area on the lower level of the main building.
So far, roughly two dozen volunteers, young and old, with varying degrees of artistic skills, have literally made their mark by filling in the background colors of an enormous piece of art that has been designed as an elaborate paint-by-numbers project.
But this mural is more than simply a welcome splash of color. It is a great way for us to reach out to the St. Philip community and say we want you to be involved in what we’re doing here. Our hope is that being part of this mural project will give folks a sense of ownership—that this really is their church.
The project is being coordinated by artist Linda Cole, who last year completed a series of murals throughout the nursery and preschool area at Mt. Bethel. The St. Philip mural is divided into four panels: The Creation; Adam and Eve in the Garden; Noah’s Ark; and the Nativity. This is hardly your typical church mural. It features beautiful bold colors to reflect the diversity of the surrounding neighborhoods. Our mural will have red llamas, blue palm trees, and maybe even pink elephants.
There’s still time for you to get involved. Contact us at St. Philip at 770-435-1497 to find out how.
Comfortability and familiarity are the keys to most relationships. We listen to our quiet inner voice when it sends us a message about the person to whom we are speaking: either “Danger - retreat!” or “Welcome them in - everything is OK.” Or how many of us go to the same restaurants because they know us and we are familiar with the atmosphere (and menu)?
How blessed am I to witness both of these traits in the parents who utilize MBUMC “God’s Zoo” or nursery. Moms and Dads rest easy when they come to their child’s room and see the same familiar faces there to love on the children. Moms and Dads are also comfortable with the atmosphere knowing the check-in system and number of team members in each room help keep their child safe in their absence.
The children experience the same sort of comfortablility with the same people caring for them. However, sometimes it takes them a little longer to come around - that is where our new COLORING Book comes in.
The nursery, with the help of Linda and Adam Cole, has created a MBUMC God’s Zoo coloring book which features pictures of the animals in the nursery. The more they are exposed to the MBUMC ministry that was created just for them, the more familiar and comfortable they will feel. The increase in these should help reduce the anxiety, for some at, drop off. Other ministries that children can participate in are also highlighted - so older siblings can enjoy the book also.
In addition to being used for specific events in our ministry, the books will be sold in the MBUMC Bookstore for $3.99. Come by and see some of the fun that is coming from God’s Zoo.
