A few years ago, our then District Superintendent described Mt. Bethel as a church in “a category all its own.” He was right. Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church is a large church which succeeds in making its members feel as though they are part of a friendly and loving small church. Our big yellow church offers four Sunday services (including an early service and a contemporary service), outstanding preaching and music, and a great Sunday School. Because of its educational and recreational programs for children and youth, Mt. Bethel continues to attract many young families who enjoy its feeling of growth, excitement and relevance to all aspects of family life.
Mt. Bethel's main campus today
Most of Mt. Bethel’s facilities are located on a main campus of approximately 40 acres on Lower Roswell Road. These facilities, the majority of which have been completed or renovated in the past decade, include a sanctuary which seats 1,800 in its present configuration and an education building which is the home of Mt. Bethel’s large Sunday School program and the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. The Christian Activities Center houses a gymnasium, walking track, fitness classes, facilities for youth athletics, and serves as the home of our contemporary service on Sunday. The Fields of Dreams are home to a recreation program that reaches out to the community and beyond. Other significant facilities include the buildings which house our administrative offices, Sunday School rooms, a fellowship hall, and recently expanded kitchen. A second Mt. Bethel campus at the corner of Lower Roswell and Woodlawn Road is the site of our Day Care Center, the Shepherd Counseling Center and the Older Adult Center.
The National Church Growth Institute has regularly ranked Mt. Bethel in the top one percent of churches in the United States. At the end of 2003, Mt. Bethel had more than 7,200 members. Membership has approximately doubled over the past decade, and our growth shows no sign of slowing.
During the decade that ended in December 2003, Mt. Bethel spent almost $29 millon on capital projects, including new and upgraded facilities and acquisition of property. At this point in our history, Mt. Bethel is well-positioned to serve its congregation and coumminity, and to enjoy continued growth. Praise be to God.
