Mt. Bethel has been directly involved with Estonia since it's independence from the Soviet Union. We have been involved with the Baltic Mission Center which trains ministers of the Christian faith. Our graduating minister, Sergei Sutskov, established a Russian speaking congregation in the small town of Kohtla-Jarve which is near the Russian border. His church is our connecting congregation in Estonia. We are in fellowship not only during our mission trips but throughout the year by prayer and internet communication.
Through his church, we have been involved in Children's Camp and small work projects at Camp Gideon which is located on the Baltic Sea. As a newly formed parliamentary democracy, Estonia has a chance to grown Christian education and therefore become a lighthouse in western Europe that we so desperately need. Mt. Bethel in connection with our Estonian friends is apart of this plan. Our mission in Estonia is to continue to support our Connecting Congregation to grow the Methodist Church in a predominately Russian area of Estonia. Each day we spend time with children in a camp setting, giving us the time to share our talents in Bible study, Sports, English as a second language, Arts and Crafts, and Music. Through these activities each of our team members has the opportunity to mentor children through the love of Christ. Our connecting congregational minister, Sergei, provides us with a loving church home while we are in Kohtla-Jarve. We have opportunity to share in worship and to express our faith through testimonials.
This year we will work on another project at his church rental property which is being renovated to classrooms and other needed facilities for his congregation. Prayerfully consider Estonia as a way to express your faith in action. You will be Blessed!
