Short Term Mission Trips

Ghana

Michael and Claire Mozley, Mt. Bethel's missionaries to West Africa, have served the Lord in Ghana since 1999. Their mission is to see indigenous leaders raised up who have a heart for the unreached. Their passion is to encourage these leaders to carry out the Great Commission throughout Africa and beyond.

It was Michael and Claire who introduced Mt. Bethel to Rev. Louise Timothy, who founded Adullam Orphanage in Obuasi in 1996 where a Mt. Bethel team has served the last two years.

The objectives of Adullum Orphanage are:

  • To offer orphaned, abandoned and destitute children love, shelter and a permanent home, regardless of their race or creed, solely according to their need.
  • To provide education through secondary school, sponsorship for university and vocational training for the orphans.
  • To prepare the children to be self-reliant, independent thinking individuals, therefore making them positive, active members of a community.
  • To provide good dietary nutrition, health and medical care and a clean hygienic environment in which to live and grow.
  • To teach honor, respect for oneself, other people and God.
  • To improve each child’s health as well as providing vitamins, medications, medical checks and necessary operations for children who are cared for at the orphanage.
  • To give training to widows and support their children while they undergoing vocational training or endeavoring to start a small-scale industry.

Today Adullam Orphanage cares for over 150 children. Adullam also continues to support widows by training and employing them as child caretakers and teachers. The children are educated on site by ten dedicated teachers. Because deaf children are the most neglected in Ghana, Adullam hired four wonderful teachers who instruct 17 deaf children using sign language. The mortality rate in West Africa is high among children due to malaria, meningitis and HIV/AIDS. Since early detection of infection is critical to preventing life-threatening situations, two qualified nurses rotate a 24-hour shift to care for the medical needs of the children especially the vulnerable babies and those infected with HIV. One of the future goals of Adullam is to build an HIV/AIDS hospice and a much needed children’s hospital on land that has been donated to the orphanage.

You Can Help in Many Different Ways:

  • Join our short-term mission team
  • Provide a full or partial scholarship for someone else to go on the mission trip
  • Make donations of powdered soy baby formula, over the counter medicines, and other needs.
  • Pray for the children, widows and those serving at the orphanage

Team Member Sponsorship

God calls us to serve in different ways. Because this is an expensive trip (approx. $2,700 due to airfare) there are those who feel led to go but are prohibited by the cost. If you feel the Lord calling you to support this mission but can’t physically go yourself, you might consider supporting another team member by donating a full or partial scholarship through Mt. Bethel’s Missions Office.
