As one of the hottest hobbies around with revenues in excess of $1billion a year, scrapbooking is the process of recording events through the use of photographs, journaling, decorative papers and embellishments in an album or book for friends and family to recant. In fact, this practice was documented in the book of Joshua 4
Joshua called together the twelve men and told them, “go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the LORD you God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes. We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future, your children will ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ Then you can tell, them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the LORD’s covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a permanent, memorial among the people of Israel.”
The recording of family traditions such as births, weddings or deaths has long been established and in most cases documented in family Bibles. Many religious holidays have always been cherished moments for families to preserve. At each family event such as a recital, ball game, graduation or vacation, the story is captured on paper to be re-told over and over again.
In many respects, scrapbooking or faithbooking is very therapeutic to help one make peace with the event or find inner-strength to focus on the happy times within one’s life.
This ministry will benefit the East Cobb community by providing a facility to host a variety of scrapbooking opportunities. Each event has an admission price or class fee where a percentage of the funds will be donated to the Mt. Bethel Student Mission Trips to Ecuador (public school trip, private school trip).
