Randy was born and raised in Madison, Florida. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Georgia, Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and his Doctor of Ministry from the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.
A part of Randy’s theology is that the Christian faith is more often “caught” than taught. Christian fellowship is crucial in Randy’s ministry. It is his belief that the warmth of God’s love is experienced throughout the atmosphere of genuine Christian fellowship. The “small group ministry” is wholeheartedly endorsed by Randy and Mt. Bethel. Small groups provide an atmosphere for individuals to experience life together, in an environment that promotes Christian caring and love. Spiritual growth is also a product which comes from the special, small group ministry as individuals develop friendships based on Christ’s teachings.
Mt. Bethel has flourished with this “fellowship” concept of ministry. Today, Mt. Bethel has grown in every aspect of ministry, offering fellowship and friendship opportunities to every age group. Mt. Bethel’s ministries include: Day Care Center, Older Adult Facility, Preschool, Christian Academy K-8th Grade, recreational facilities, baseball, T-ball, Little League, softball, basketball, rock climbing, workout rooms, indoor track, football, volleyball, soccer and even fishing!
Randy has been in the ministry for 33 years, nineteen of those years as the senior pastor of Mt. Bethel. Some of his accomplishments and recognitions are as follows:
1989 -- Honored as the Best Sermon Giver, Inside Cobb Magazine
1992-2006 -- Mt. Bethel recognized by the National Church Growth Institute as being in the top 1% of the most rapidly-growing churches in America
1993 -- Received the Denman Award for the North Georgia Conference
1993-1997 -- Motivational Speaker for the Georgia Bulldogs Football Team
1994 -- Received the Circuit Rider Award
1996 -- Keynote speaker Florida United Methodist Men’s Retreat
1998 -- Mt. Bethel worship services aired over PXA TV Network
2002 -- Mt. Bethel aired over AIB network
2004 -- Received the J. Taylor Phillips Award for Courageous Moral Leadership in North Georgia Conference
2004 -- Keynote speaker North Georgia United Methodist Men’s Rock Eagle Retreat
2004 -- Published America, Keep the Faith
Randy and Diane (the love of his life) have been married since 1972. They have two children and two grandsons.
