Wilbur D. Parker is the Minister of Pastoral Care for the Mount Bethel United Methodist Church. He attended Hattiesburg (Mississippi) public schools and earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Social Studies from Livingston University. His graduate degrees include the Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Asbury Theological Seminary and Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) from Boston University. His advanced resident military education includes Command and General Staff College, The US Army War College, and the Joint Professional Military Education - Phase II, senior course.
Wil is married to the former Dannell Breland of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They have two children, Ms. Michelle Parker Diaz, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mr. W. Clay Parker of Charlotte, North Carolina. Their two grandchildren are Jennifer Parker and Gage Diaz.
He retired as a Colonel from the U. S. Army on June 30, 2000, after 27 years of active duty service. Prior to his military service, he served pastorates in Florida from 1964 until 1973, when he entered the service. His last pastorate was at The First UM church in Jupiter/Tequesta, Florida, in the West Palm Beach District. His military assignments include Joint Staff Chaplain, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.; Staff Chaplain, Headquarters U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii; Division Chaplain, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Battalion Chaplain, 1st Battalion (Ranger), 75th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Fort Stewart, Georgia.
His military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (First Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (Third Oak Leaf Cluster). He has also been awarded the Honorary Centurion Wings for having made over 100 jumps from military aircraft.
Wilbur enjoys fishing and hunting when he can get away, and working in his lawn.
