Al Stark began the study of trombone in elementary school in Arkansas 1957, graduated from El Dorado H.S. and was conferred BS in Music Education from Arkansas Tech and ME in Music from the University of Arkansas, where he studied with Bruce Nelson, Bass Trombone of the Chicago Lyric Opera. He was a band and orchestra director in several public schools in Northwest Arkansas before entering the insurance business in 1979. He transferred to Marietta with American National Insurance Company in 1983 and he and his wife Charlotte, daughter Whitney and son Nathan moved their membership to Mt. Bethel from the First United Methodist Church of Springdale, Arkansas. He is currently principal Bass Trombonist of the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra and was a founding member of the Cobb Wind Symphony and Slide by Slide, The Atlanta Trombone Ensemble. He expanded his low brass involvement with the study of the tuba in 2001 and plays tuba and bass trombone with the Basement Brass Quintet. When not involved with conducting, playing or arranging for the orchestra, Al joins his wife in the Mt. Bethel Chancel Choir. Al continues his 30 year relationship with American National Insurance Company as an agent in Marietta and Charlotte serves as a second grade teacher at Mt. Bethel Elementary School.

My favorite city outside of Atlanta is... Nashville.
