Why Baptism Matters
Baptism is one of the clearest ways we publicly declare what Jesus has already done in our hearts. It doesn't save us — it points to the salvation we've already received through faith in Jesus Christ.
Think of it like a wedding ring. The ring doesn't make you married, but it is a visible sign of a covenant that has already been made. In the same way, baptism is an outward declaration of an inward reality. It is a public way of saying, "I belong to Jesus."
The apostle Paul writes, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4). As we are lowered into the water, we identify with Christ's death and burial. As we rise again, we proclaim His resurrection and the new life we've been given in Him. Baptism tells the greatest story ever toldand invites us to live it every day.
That's also why we celebrate baptism in the presence of the church. When someone is baptized, the body of Christ rejoices together, prays together, and commits to walking alongside that person in faith. Baptism isn't just a personal moment; it's a family celebration.
Remembering Your Baptism
For those who have already been baptized, there is also beauty in remembering. Throughout Scripture, remembering means more than recalling the past — it means renewing our commitment in the present. When we remember our baptism, we aren't reliving an old experience. We are embracing again the reality it proclaimed: we belong to Christ, we've been made new, and we're called to walk faithfully with Him.
Whether you're taking this step for the first time or remembering what God has already done, baptism is a powerful declaration that your life is now found in Jesus.
Ready to Be Baptized?
At Mt. Bethel Church, anyone who feels the Holy Spirit leading them to be baptized* — whether it be for the first time or through remembrance — is required to meet with one of our pastors for a conversation about baptism. This is to help you understand the biblical meaning of baptism, answer any questions you may have, and prepare you to publicly profess your faith.
